Harbor Desk

A support console for a shipping co-operative: berth changes, customs forms and crane slots in one queue.

Role

Lead engineer

Stack

TypeScript, Postgres, React

Install

Internal tool, not public

Numbers

Tickets handled 31% faster, 14 staff, 6 ports

The brief

A co-operative of six small ports ran its support desk from a shared inbox and a whiteboard. Berth changes got lost between shifts, and a missing customs form could hold a ship for a day.

What we built

One queue for everything, grouped by vessel and sorted by arrival time. Each ticket shows the ship, the berth and the forms still missing. Anything that could delay an arrival within twelve hours turns red at the top.

Result

Fourteen staff moved over in a week. Tickets were closed 31% faster after the first quarter, and the whiteboard is now used for the crossword.
